VidoGlue Non-Flammables 440
V440 and V446 are high-strength non-flammable Neoprene rubber based contact adhesive formulated for a wide variety of uses. They effectively bond masonite, tempered and untempered hardboard, masonite, softboard, plastic laminates, asbestos cement sheets, vinyl sheeting, porcelain enamelled steel, chipboard, leather and rubber to each other or themselves.
Products are sold as follows:
- V440: for brush or roller application
- V446: for conventional (air) spray
SAFETY DATA | INFORMATION
Application
Surface to be bonded must be clean and dry. Metal surfaces should be degreased with Pekaklene and then rinsed with water and left to dry. PVC and oily surfaces should first be wiped with C408 solvent before application.
Using suitable equipment apply approximately a 50-micron thickness to each surface to be bonded. This may require up to two coats of adhesive. Thin with C408 solvent as solvent as required.
Allow the solvent to “flash off” (4 to 10 minutes minutes depending on weather conditions). Special care should be taken to ensure that ensure that the solvent has completely flashed off, particularly on non-porous surfaces.
To assemble large areas use spacers such as dowel rods or silicone paper between the two surfaces to prevent contact before the assembly positioned. After the edges have been correctly registered, the two surfaces can be pressed together as the spacers are removed.
Apply even pressure over the whole are area, sufficient to ensure to ensure a good bond.
NOTE: HEAT BONDING
Heat bonding is particularly suitable for the bonding of two non-porous surfaces as it not only completely eliminates the possibility of “solvent trap” but it also accelerates the curing of the adhesive and gives a higher initial bond strength.
Technical Data
Clean and coat the oat the surfaces as described.
When dry, heat up the surfaces using infra-red lamps or similar heating, to a surface temperature of 90° to 100°C for 2 to 3 minutes.
Remove from heat bond immediately (bond pressure 600 kpa minimum).
Safety Precautions
Avoid using V440 and V446 in confined spaces. Ensure adequate ventilation: use of V446 should be confined to a spray booth.
Chlorinated solvents give off toxic vapours at high concentrations (TLV = (TLV = 250 ppm).
Avoid contact with skin. For contact with eyes, flush with water and consult a doctor.
Limitations
Application temperature limits: 6° to 40°C. Do not apply during cold inclement weather as surface condensation will impair the bond strength of the adhesive.
Storage temperature limits: 5° to 35°C Protect from freezing. Ensure that partially used cans are well sealed to prevent evaporation.
Service temperature limits: -20°C to +90°C
